Why You Should Always Buy MTCC Certified Custom Built Doors

We provide custom built doors and windows in the Perth area. As you may have seen on our website, we proudly display that we are MTCC certified. But why is that so important?

What is the MTCC?

MTCC stands for Malaysian Timber Certification Council. It was established in 2001 to oversee and help execute the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS). MTCC certification is voluntary and helps foster sustainable and responsible forestry practices. Though it is based in Malaysia, it is one of seven timber certification schemes that are accepted worldwide.

What MTCC Certification Means to You

MTCC certification means that our timber is sourced from suppliers who practise sustainable and ethical harvesting and forestry. It means that our timber is sourced from suppliers who replace every tree they cut down with another tree. But why is this so important?

Why Sustainable Sources are So Important

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), deforestation destroys the equivalent area of as many as 36 soccer pitches every day. Forests provide the oxygen that we depend on to breathe. Forests and rainforests currently account for 31% of the earth’s area. As more forests are cut down, the amount of oxygen is decreased.

Deforestation also has an effect on global warming because it allows more greenhouse gases to exist in the atmosphere. The most effective measurement of contribution to global warming is the carbon footprint, which measures how much carbon a process or a good emits into the environment.

Trees have a negative carbon footprint. They breathe CO2 from the air, release the oxygen back into the environment and turn the carbon into timber. When a tree reaches maturity, it begins to convert carbon more slowly.

Responsible timber harvesting ensures that trees are harvested when they are fully mature and are replaced with new trees, which remove more carbon from the environment to grow.
