At Fremantle Door & Window Company, we are known for our custom built bifold doors. But we can also provide custom built bifold windows as we have for many in the Perth area. Like bifold doors, bifold windows help to provide a seamless transition from the indoors to the outdoors.
They are mounted on tracks at the top of the window and consist of two or more panels with hinges. The most usual configuration: two pairs of joined panels, with one pair moving to the left and another to the right. However, they can also be made as one pair or multiple pairs. It depends upon how wide an area the window covers.
One of the main advantages to bifold windows is that they provide panoramic views, especially out of a kitchen. Because they open to the side, they don’t need a lot of clearance like a casement window would. In addition, they can be opened to twice the width of a standard sliding window that moves to the side.
They also allow maximum ventilation and maximum sunlight to enter a room. This is a great benefit in an open floor plan.
However, our experience has been that servery windows work even better, especially in a kitchen. They are quite popular with our Perth area customers. Servery windows are built like bifold windows, but they have a prominent sill extending to the outdoors that allows you to serve food from the kitchen. A slab of concrete and a few bar stools can turn the space outside of a servery window into a very casual alfresco dining area.
