The Pros and Cons of Sliding Doors

At Fremantle Door & Window Company, we offer a lot of different options. One of the most popular is sliding doors. We would like to tell you about the pros and cons of sliding doors to help you make a choice. Here are some factors that make a difference.

Why You May Choose Sliding Doors

Our sliding doors are custom made using glass with a timber frame. Unlike traditional doors, you can see out into your garden. If you live in an area with a great view, this is a huge reason to install a sliding door. Another benefit of this transparency is that it lets a lot of natural light into your home. This cheers your home up and also provides the illusion of more space in your home.

Pros and Cons of Sliding Doors

Our sliding doors are great for the environment because we use sustainable timber and a special glass that is made right here in WA. The end result is a door that seals airtight, keeping the heat outside in the summer and the heat inside in the winter. Timber is a natural insulator and our glass is specially formulated to provide insulation.

Sliding doors don’t take up any extra space. With a conventional door, you have to leave an area free for clearance. With a sliding door, you can put that extra potted plant close to the doorway and it doesn’t get in the way of the door opening.

Why You May Choose Another Option

A sliding door only opens to half of its width. So, if you want an opening 1.5 m wide, the door will have to be 3 m wide. Also, you do have to maintain sliding doors a little bit. The glass should be kept clean and the tracks should be kept free of debris. You will also have to clean the tracks on occasion to keep the door sliding freely.
