In this video, the Fremantle Door & Window team shows you how you can recycle heritage timber windows whilst saving money for your heritage home renovation project.
A lot of people are trying to do renovations and using recycled materials.
This particular customer has salvaged these big beautiful old sashes from the Fremantle Prison.
He’s brought them into us; we’ve milled them down to the right sizes. Then we built a new frame, replaced the old ropes, put new pulleys in.
Basically by doing this kind of thing you can save yourself a lot of money; there’s also keeping the history of the window. It’s a good talking point.
We do this for the double hung windows or the traditional with the ropes and the pulleys and the weights.
Otherwise you can use a spiral balancer, which is a little bit of a cheaper option.
But you can’t do it on the smaller windows.
Bigger windows like this, we really recommend that you use the ropes and the pulleys.
