The Pros and Cons of Pivot Doors

Pivot doors are relatively new when it comes to house design. They can make a bold, modern statement, but they aren’t for everyone. Here are the pros and cons of pivot doors.

Advantages of Pivot Doors

Favorite advantage of pivot doors is how they look. They are stark, sleek and modern. They allow you to make a bold design statement in your house or in your business.

Pivot doors are anchored on a pivot at the bottom of the door. The pivot and the floor support all of the weight of the door, which is great because the wall doesn’t have to support the weight at the side of the door. This makes these doors slightly more stable than conventional doors, especially in bad weather.

The Pros and Cons of Pivot Doors

Pivot doors are also build a little bit wider than conventional doors. This makes it much easier to move large pieces of furniture in and out of a pivot door compared to a conventional door. In addition, a pivot door doesn’t open fully back into the room so it saves you some space.

Disadvantages of Pivot Doors

The only real disadvantage we know of with pivot doors is that they don’t seal as fully has conventional doors, sliding doors or bi-fold doors. However, they do seal well enough to keep bugs and drafts out of your home.

Another factor that could be seen as a disadvantage is one of the same factors we see as an advantage: the stark, modern style. A pivot door may look too sleek or too modern for your home, especially if you are going for a more traditional look. Luckily for you, we have many other choices and we can always find something that not only fits into your home but improves it.
