Pros and Cons of French Doors

French doors are a popular design element today in both new and remodeled homes. French doors have distinctive timber working throughout the glass pane, called “muntins.” They are great for providing a nice view to the outdoors or for joining two interior rooms such as a kitchen and a dining room.

Here are the pros and cons of french doors.

Advantages of French Doors

French doors allow a lot of light through. This gives the illusion of more space in a home. It also more closely integrates one room with another or the inside of your home with your patio, deck or garden. The design is distinctive and aesthetically pleasing. They tend to increase the value of a home due to the perception of the person viewing the doors.

We build custom French doors, allowing you to use a traditional colour such as white or a design with a mild stain, creating a more natural look. You can literally choose any colour you like depending on your preference.

Pros and Cons of French Doors

Disadvantages of French Doors

French doors open and close like a conventional door, meaning you do have to allow space for them to swing. They can be harder to install or create for someone going the DIY route. They aren’t that great for bedrooms, where most people prefer a solid timber door for privacy.
