Bifold doors are quite popular in Perth but they aren’t for everyone. We create a large variety of custom built doors at Fremantle Door & Window Company. We thought it would be helpful to provide a guide to the pros and cons of bifold doors to help homeowners in Perth decide whether they are a good choice for their homes.
Advantages of Bifold Doors
Our favourite advantage of bifold doors is that they are great for integrating your home into natural surroundings. This is for reasons that we also consider to be “advantages of bifold doors.”
They are built with solid timber frames and special, weatherproof glass that we have specially manufactured for us here in WA. The timber frames match up to the timber in your backyard or garden perfectly.
Bifold doors can open to as much as 90% of the width of the doorway because the panels fold against each other at one or both sides of the doorway. This allows for easy entry and exit and is especially effective for integrating an alfresco living area, patio or deck into your home. It’s like adding living space without having to build it or remodel your home.
Since these doors open to the side, you don’t have to make any clearance in front of either side of the door. This allows you to effectively use more living space. It also makes your home look even larger due to the increased amount of light it lets in.
Disadvantages of Bifold Doors
To be honest, there are almost no disadvantages to bifold doors. Some people may think it’s too much work to slide them to the side. When they are closed, the frames don’t allow for the same view a really large sliding door would give. The only other disadvantage we can think of is that you might not like all of that sun shining into your home.
