How Adding a Server Window Makes Outdoor Entertaining A Breeze

Summer and Christmas are almost upon us and, as we all know in here in Perth, this means it is the season for outdoor entertaining and that good old Aussie favourite, the BBQ.

Of course the salads, the Christmas ham and the drinks are all prepared and located inside so the challenge is to get them all outside to where your family and friends are enjoying the sunshine.

Moving food and other items from your kitchen to an outdoor patio is made simple and easy when you install a timber servery window or gas strut window.

A special serving window opens from your kitchen on to an outside counter or shelf. You don’t have to balance plates or trays while trying to open a door to your patio, pergola or pool area.

Serving windows that offer instant access to another area, including an enclosed outdoor/indoor space, come with regular bifold windows or gas strut windows. These custom windows are used frequently in this area since Perth and other Western Australia communities experience mild weather most of the year. You can use this convenient window when you entertain or to simply move food and other items between the kitchen and the outdoor area.

Kitchen Servery Windows

The server window is usually located by the sink. This is ideal for serving and for returning used plates and utensils directly to the kitchen.

Dirty dishes can be stacked on the counter by the window and placed immediately in the sink or dishwasher (for the kids to deal with later – who am I fooling?).

The serving window from your kitchen usually replaces the regular window over your sink.

To match your existing decor the window can be framed with a similar timber to that used in other windows or doors in your home.

For added convenience an outdoor counter shelf can be built beneath the window in the same type of wood.

The timber frame may be painted or the natural colours of the wood may be enhanced with a stain. For security reasons bifold windows can be fitted with a tight latch when they are not used and, to keep the insect pests at bay, screening is available.

A servery window can be added to any style of home. It can be placed anywhere in a kitchen, dining area or family room where there is a convenient window to an outdoor living space.

Although the server window is generally in the sink area, there may be a window by your counter space that is more convenient. This type of window will enhance a heritage home with a remodelled kitchen. It can be part of a new home or expanded kitchen that leads to an outdoor activities area in a contemporary or traditional design.

Gas Strut Windows

This window design is perfect for serving to and from an outdoor space.

The gas strut window stays in place once it is open. It folds up and out with the struts holding it in place until you are ready to close it.

The struts are on each side of the single sheet of glass for a full, unobstructed view when the window is open or closed. A shelf or platform can be constructed beneath the frame to hold dishes and utensils.

The frame can be made from similar looking timber as the other windows in your home.

This special window fits seamlessly in a home’s design. It opens the kitchen or other room to the outdoor patio or deck. The window can be made in any size.

The gas strut window can be used anywhere in a home to allow fresh air into a room. A screen can be placed over the opening to keep out flying insects.
