Bifold Doors: Most Versatile Doors Ever?

At Fremantle Door and Window, we love providing custom built bifold doors for homeowners in the Perth area. In fact, they may be our favourite kind of door to build and install. The benefits of these doors are numerous and well documented. They save space because they fold and rest neatly to the side when they are open. They let in light, providing an airy, modern appearance to your home. They are the best door at integrating your home with nature.

Bifold Doors - Most Versatile Door

But the biggest benefit of bifold doors is that they are versatile. These doors provide more design options than any other door. Here are some of the different ways you can use bifold doors.

Exterior Bifold Doors

When used for exterior design, bifold doors provide some interesting and fun options. We love using them for patios or alfresco living areas. A folding door going out onto your patio can turn it into an instant entertainment area. If you use four panels of bifold doors, for example, your opening for entry and exit will be nearly as wide as the four panels together. This is because they sit folded, neatly to the side, when the door is open all the way.

The end result is free entry inside and out, fully integrating your patio or alfresco living area into your home. It’s like getting free extra living space.

While most folding doors are around four panels wide, we have also replaced the entire length of a wall with bifold doors in many cases.

Internal Bifold Doors

Then they are used on the interior, bifold doors are a design dynamo. They can be used to turn your home into an open floor plan or a modified floor plan. This is usually done by opening up the common areas of the home, such as the living room, dining room, family room and kitchen.

All you have to do is knock down the walls and make the area open. Then, you can use folding doors as “walls” when they are closed or keep them open for one large room. You really have to see one of these floor plans to fully understand what they can do for your home.
