When we are helping clients with indoor remodeling, we are often asked whether bifold doors or sliding doors are better for closets. While we are happy to install sliding doors in closets in the rare case that they might be a better choice we think bifold doors are the superior option.
We can provide custom built bifold doors made of timber that will allow you full access to your closet while lending a natural “look” and “feel” to any room. Here’s why we like bifold doors over sliding doors for closets.
Advantages of Bifold Doors for Closets
The biggest advantage by far for bifold doors is that they provide the widest opening. You can nearly open your entire closet at once, with the doors taking up minimal space on the sides of the opening. The solid timber looks great when you close bifold closet doors, too.
Another thing we really like about bifold doors for the closet is that we can hang them from a track along the top of the entrance or they can be free-standing, allowing for removal to another part of the room if you like. They are really easy to slide along the top track to the sides to provide the opening.
Advantages of Sliding Doors for Closets
We love sliding doors for a variety of applications but not so much for closets. The main advantage of a sliding door on a closet is that you can attach a rail to the outside pane. This allows you to casually hang clothes or towels along half of the outside of your closet.
