Awning windows are windows that open upward and provide an awning when opened. They protect much like the cloth awnings you see on shops. Awning windows provide great ventilation and extra protection from the elements. They are the only window you can open when the rain is blowing towards your window and not get water in your home.
Why You May Like Awning Windows
An awning window can stand on its own or it can be placed above or even below a picture window because they are often smaller than other types of windows. Awning windows are opened with a crank and swing on hinges at the top. This allows ventilation but without any debris or rain blowing in.
If you have plenty of space outside for clearance when the window opens outward and upward, awning windows are great. They are the window of choice for bathrooms because they can be placed high enough that nobody can see you when they are opened. Awning windows are also used in kitchens, usually in conjunction with other window types.
Why You May Not Like Awning Windows
If you don’t have room outside for the window to clear when it is opened, an awning window isn’t recommended. While we love them for bathrooms and on top of picture windows or on top of servery windows in kitchens, they don’t make a great window for decoration.
For living rooms, bedrooms or family rooms, there are many more options, such as bifold windows, sliding windows, casement windows or Aneeta windows.
